Psyches of Color, Inc. is a grassroots nonprofit that uses strengths-based and culturally grounded approaches to support at-promise Black and Latinx adolescents and young adults. Our mission is to decrease mental health stigma, promote radical healing, and help youth become agents in their own mental health while developing a sustainable pipeline of future Black and Latinx mental health professionals through training, leadership development, and research pathways.
Psyches of Color is a trauma-informed and strengths-based organization that centers healing, cultivates leadership, and amplifies the inherent resilience of the communities we serve.
The POC App is your one stop space for mental health, offering tools to explore engaging topics that build awareness and emotional literacy. Users can participate in meaningful check-ins that support reflection and growth, and journal their thoughts in a guided, strengths-based space designed to promote insight, resilience, and self-discovery.
Psyches of Color Workforce Development Psychology Internship (POCWDPI) is a six-month, multi-track program serving high school, college, graduate, and post-graduate participants interested in mental health careers. Interns and fellows engage in both research and program tracks that integrate clinical and community psychology, with developmentally appropriate training aligned to individual and collective goals. Participants gain hands-on experience in community-based participatory research, program evaluation, and program development, are exposed to culturally representative mental health professionals, and receive early professional development tools to support a smooth pathway into the field. The program aims to increase representation of Black and Latinx mental health professionals while providing stipends, individualized development plans, and leadership opportunities in community mental health.
Lamar’s Thoughts and Faults chronicles Lamar’s daily reflections while incarcerated, unfiltered thoughts, painful realizations, and lessons forged in isolation. Speaking directly to adolescents and young adults, Lamar offers guidance drawn from his own missteps, hoping to interrupt cycles before they repeat.
