The oldest of four and how do I bring strength to the core? Three boys and one girl to my mother; she deserves the world. To be single and not have time to mingle – I had to grow up fast just to give mom a pass. To let her hair down, relax, go out with the girls and clown… So fast forward to where I sit today on a top bunk in prison getting old and gray… I remember a big house for moms is what I used to say. I love you and think of you every day.

To the youth: Let those who you love know you love them as much as you can.

I take each step precise, hard, and aggressive because in this life things can become a more progressive situation – pushing past people with no hesitation – ready to ride or die for the dedication. Because of the type of anger I possess when facing a complete stranger – just to show him I’m harder with caution tape screaming, DANGER! DANGER! Can all this attitude be put inside because mom used a hanger? So, I try to understand my mind being young and, now charged with a gun, my life is deep and dark – I’m an African American with a heart – equipping myself to become a little more smart. Knowledge is key, bullseye focus on the target – steady and hold the dart.

To the youth, focus on our footprints – when we leave this earth what do we want to leave behind? In light of our past, we must keep pushing because we too have our future and are valuable.

Stay Grounded

I stand tall and alone with a lot of family and friends ignoring me on the phone. I’m stressed out loosing hair getting rid of all my combs – trying to find common ground in every religion when some of my brothers say, Shalom. Thanking God for that day he finally calls me home.

To the youth, stay focused and grounded. If God has helped you to stay grounded then keep him in the present and the future.

I Still Matter!

As I sit here and ponder on my wrongdoings and “right conclusions”, I guessed life’s perfect amusement was to everyone else at my grace or in my face because I don’t remember being thankful for being put in this place. To everyone behind bars – especially the real not the fake – I do relate, I do relate!! So, the next time we are overlooked for being murderers, robbers, and overall crooks, I still find the answer to every word at the bottom of a book with the coldest recipe that has a lot of us shook!

To the youth, I encourage you to read because knowledge is power. Specifically, I read a book while in here by Elon Musk called Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future. I learned that it takes time, patience, and endurance in order to be a key player on the chessboard in order to get where you are going!
